Name: Planting Workday at Ravenswood Open Space Preserve
    Date: December 2, 2023
    Time: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM PST
    Event Description:
Join Peninsula Open Space Trust and Grassroots Ecology for this fun and unique opportunity to volunteer at Ravenswood Open Space Preserve. Join Peninsula Open Space Trust and Grassroots Ecology for a community event to restore California habitat! Volunteers will be planting native plants at Ravenswood Open Space Preserve, learning about the history and ecology of the site along the way. Volunteers can expect to work in a flat area, this includes having their backs bent over for long periods, carrying buckets of water, and use of gardening tools. No prior experience required! Ravenswood Open Space Preserve in East Palo Alto features a restored tidal salt marsh that serves as critical habitat for hundreds of species of shore birds, fish, and mammals, including the endangered salt marsh harvest mouse and Ridgway’s rail. The preserve is managed by Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District and its main trail is part of the Bay Trail network, which circumnavigates San Francisco Bay. Visit Grassroots Ecology’s Ravenswood Open Space Preserve webpage to learn more about the ecosystem and accessibility considerations. We will release more details closer to the date of the event. Keep an eye out for an email containing information about what to bring, wear, etc! Grassroots Ecology is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to caring for public lands and waters across Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. Each year they engage thousands of people in hands-on education and service that improves our local environment. Grassroots Ecology’s aim is to restore natural functions to the ecosystem by keeping invasive plants in check, growing locally native plants at their nursery, supporting stream restoration and fish passage projects, and planting a diversity of species in order to feed wildlife.
