Downtown and Old Mountain View Residents and Businesses, You are invited to a community meeting in advance of the opening of the Mountain View Cold Weather Shelter at Trinity United Methodist Church, for its second year of operation serving families and single women, starting on Monday, November 26th. There will be two community meetings: November 14th, at 10:30am and at 7pm at Trinity United Methodist Church, at 748 Mercy Street. Representatives from Santa Clara County, Supervisor Simitian’s office, and HomeFirst, the non-profit operating the shelter, will be there to answer questions and hear community comment. Like last year, the Cold Weather Shelter Program will provide nightly shelter and meals along with restrooms, shower facilities and case management during the winter months for up to 50 people, as many as 10 families and the balance will be single women. Participants will be accepted by referral only (no walk-ins) and will have to leave at a designated time each morning. The program will be operated by HomeFirst, a non-profit agency with 29 years experience operating winter shelters. Other collaborating agencies include: Community Services Agency, Hope’s Corner, County Office of Supportive Housing and West Valley Community Services. A number of community members and businesses volunteered to support the shelter in its first year of operation last year. If you are interested in volunteering with the shelter this year, please email Jaclyn Salinas at firstname.lastname@example.org. If your business would like to donate surplus prepared foods, please contact Maria Yap at email@example.com.
