SUMMARY:Backyard Rental Units as a Means to Address the Housing Shortage
DESCRIPTION:Join Mountain View Vice Mayor Lenny Siegel\, ADU Builder\, Inc CEO Tony Chan and Victoria Fierce from CaRLA for a free panel discussion to find out how and why people in the Mountain View and the surrounding area are transforming portions of their yards into valuable housing units.\n\nBackyard rental units are officially known as Accessory Dwelling Units or "ADUs. Some Bay Area homeowners build ADUs to house parents or children\, some rent out the ADU for income\, some downsize to an ADU and rent out their original house. ADUs increase affordable housing inventory\, enable homeowners to maximize their use of space\, and generate value. Local governments in the Bay Area now encourage ADU construction to increase density without significantly altering a neighborhood's character.\n\nThe panel will address practical issues including the recent liberalization of Mountain View and surrounding area's building codes\, "tiny house" design concepts\, prefab versus traditional construction\, as well as ADU costs\, incentives\, and ways to finance construction.\n\nThe panel will be moderated by TechCode Director Shawn Flynn who will emcee a Q&A session to follow the panel discussion.\n\nPanelists:\n\nLenny Siegel\n\nMayor of Mountain View\n\nTony Y. Chan\n\nCEO of ADU Builder\, Inc.\n\nVictoria Fierce\n\nCo-Executive Director of CaRLA\n\nTony Siress\n\nPresident & Chief Executive of MVCoC\n\nAgenda:\n\n5:30-6pm Registration\n\n6-7pm Panel Discussion and Q&A Session\n\n7-9pm Reception and Networking
